Kindergarten Begins 3rd Year Using Countdown Phonics Program
This year we are excited to begin our third year using a program called Countdown by Really Great Reading. This program is designed for Kindergarten students learning to read. It focuses on these strands of literacy: functional vocabulary and key concepts, rhyming, phonemic awareness, blending, segmenting, alphabetic principles of decoding and encoding, letter-sound relationships, and sight words.
Some things students really enjoy about the program are:
- Pictures that are displayed during the lesson that help them make the connection between letters and sounds
- Sight word games
- Reading familiar words and feeling success during the lesson
